Job Description

The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of USSSA will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the diverse organization, reporting to the Board of Directors. All employees and sports will report to the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, in addition to other staff as determined necessary for implementation of strategic initiatives and functionality of organization. Main responsibilities include sustaining an elite level of sports at USSSA with ongoing efforts to grow participation by providing an elevated level of experience and competition. This will require, but is not limited to, liaising between departments and head of sports, technology and new program development, implementation and assessment, budget oversight, policy and procedure compliance and legal, and problem solving. As the leader of USSSA, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer will be expected to be innovative, entrepreneurial, collaborative, analytical, highly organized, inquisitive, and have the ability to work independently. The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer will create an atmosphere of collaboration for employees, heads of sports, departments, and directors with a goal to enhance the USSSA footprint as an industry leader. The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer will serve as the public face of the organization and act in a professional and responsible manner at all times. This will include all manner of business communications including but not limited to communication with internal staff, external stakeholders, public speaking engagements, business communications & media inquiries/outreach.

Qualifications:

  •   Bachelor’s degree required
  •   Understanding of policy and budgeting practices
  •   Experience with responsibilities outlined in position summary
  •   Self-directed with an entrepreneurial spirit while appropriately engages key stakeholders
  • Proven experience as CEO or in other       managerial position including but not limited to developing profitable strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and managerial best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking skills and media strategy/management

Responsibilities:

  • The ED/CEO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of a diverse organization, reporting to the Board of Directors
  • All employees will report to the structure implemented by ED/CEO, in addition to other staff as determined necessary for implementation of strategic initiatives and daily functionality
  • Main responsibilities include sustaining an elite level of sports programming within the organization with ongoing efforts to grow participation by providing an elevated experience through athletic competition
  • This will require, but is not limited to, liaising between departments and directors, program development, implementation and assessment, budget oversight, policy and procedure compliance, and problem solving.
  • As the leader of USSSA, the ED/CEO will be expected to be innovative, entrepreneurial, collaborative, analytical, highly organized, inquisitive, and have the ability to work independently
  • The ED/CEO will create an atmosphere of hard work and positive collaboration which promotes growth within individuals and the organization
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to ensure the organization is competitive and ultimately recruits and retains individuals who desire to represent the USSSA brand
  • Evaluate progress against the plans and update as necessary
  • This will include, but is not limited to, providing inputs to additional opportunities, development of new sports and revenue planning
  • Analyze data and national datasets to recommend and identify new markets which closely align with USSSA goals and vision
  • Identify professional development needs and coordinate with HR to provide training and also ensures necessary compliance requirements are met
  • Initially review and if required, lead development of new policies and process appropriate for the organization
  • Accountable for overseeing program compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as any external laws and regulations
  • Ensure personnel and employees are appropriately trained and maintain compliance requirements
  • Oversee hiring, training, and function as direct supervisor for leadership team, head of sports, operations staff.
  • Work strategically within USSSA to establish relationships/contracts with vendors for sponsorship opportunities
  • Function as the strategic leader to oversee the technical presence of USSSA
    • This includes providing vision and direction on USSSA web sites, social channels, and broadcasting efforts
    • This work will be done in collaboration with USSSA Technology department and partners, USSSA Marketing and Media departments
    • The goal will be to retain and attract prospective new programs to USSSA, promote various levels of participation and competition, enable family and friends to view competitions, and enhance sponsorship opportunities
  • Develop annual budgets and review progress throughout the year with staff, organization accounting and Board of Directors
  • Provide budget appropriate education and oversight to the respective staff, head of sports, with an emphasis on priorities and necessary adjustments
  • Liaise with legal counsels in construction of agreements, contracts, and other matters as required
  • Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function and all employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties as requested by their supervisor
